Simon was born in 1955, and was a treble chorister in the choir of All Saints,
Margaret Street, London W1 from 1965 until 1968, when the residential Choir
School closed. He was fortunate to have his first organ lessons from Michael
Fleming while at the Choir School. Subsequent teachers have included
Christopher Bowers-Broadbent and Kevin Bowyer.
He became the organist of Chingford United Reformed Church while still in the sixth form, before becoming a Choral Exhibitioner at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he read music. Shortly after graduation he formed a Music Society attached to St Saviour’s, Walthamstow and conducted a series of Choral and Orchestral concerts.
He has been active musically since then both as an Organist/Choirmaster and as a singer (tenor). Organist appointments have included the South London Liberal Synagogue and the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption and St Gregory, Warwick Street, London, W1.
